ARTIST STATEMENT – The Rope
The Rope is a photographic series where a single object becomes both material and metaphor. It binds, displays, and distorts itself as it turns tension into language.
Here, the figure known as The Shapeshifter emerges for the first time. When he appears more than once, it is him — caught in conflict with himself. When the form changes clothing, it is a reflection, an echo of others.
The Rope mediates these encounters. The figures are highly theatrical, exaggerated and performative, caught in surreal compositions. The Rope is a weapon, a partner, a conversation. At times it twists like a serpent, locked in combat with its host. Other times, an emblem of words that hold softness, that unravels him into the arms of the ones that care. Elsewhere it holds, plays, restrains, or exposes, revealing the fragile balance between control and surrender.
The Shapeshifter’s struggle with the rope is not just physical but psychological — a rehearsal for transformation. The rope writes the story, shaping what is bound, what is lifted, and what is left bare.
